The Adventures of a Pizza Delivery Guy
A buddy of mine from college decided to take a job as a pizza delivery guy once he got out of school to help pay the bills until he could get his foot in the door somewhere better. He ended up working in pizza delivery for about two years before he moved on, and I never will forget some of the wild and crazy stories he would tell me about those days. He said that while it was not the best paying job he ever had, it definitely produced the best stories.
He told a story about his first day as a pizza delivery driver. He said he met an old woman who appeared to be very lonely and talked to him for half an hour. My friend is one of the nicest guys in the world, and he said he patiently stood there listening to her as she went on and on about all the trouble she was having with the neighbor's dog and her ailments. My friend said when she was finally done, she tipped him a dollar. I could not help but laugh at this, but I knew it upset him.
He had another story about a regular customer of his who collected toys. He said that the guy had all kinds of children's toys stacked on shelves around his house and would buy and sell them for a living. My friend said he must have had over 1,000 toys and said the guy even admitted that he would play with them some times. He said shortly before he put in his two-weeks notice with the pizza delivery place, the guy invited him inside to play with his toys with him. My friend said he was so glad he never had to go back!
On another pizza delivery, he brought four pizzas to a kid who opened the door, took the pizzas and immediately closed the door. My buddy said that he stood there knocking on the door for almost 45 minutes before an angry woman in curlers opened the door, and wanted to know what he wanted. When my friend explained what had happened, the woman informed that she never ordered the pizzas and that it must have been her son. She furiously wrote him a check with no tip at all and slammed the door.
If I ever want to have a couple of laughs, I know that all I have to do is invite my friend over and ask him to tell some of his pizza delivery stories. It seems like every time we do that, he has more stories he has not thought of before, and we have a really good time!
